We Know How it Feels to Get a Bad Photo
It’s Embarrassing, Disappointing, Demoralizing
After graduating from NYU, I started my own art / graphic design business— a 2002 side hustle. I hired a well-known, professional NYC photographer for my headshots. It was a bit pricy for me, but their work looked beautiful so I took a gulp and hired them.
I didn’t talk to them at all between when I gave them my credit card number and the appointment of our session. I spent hours trying on clothes and figuring out what to wear. I did my best hair and makeup styling I knew how, and met the photographer at a park. I don’t remember much about the actual session anymore. I got a disk in the mail and that was the end of it. I can remember putting that disk in my computer like it was yesterday. I didn’t mind that there were 100 photos – I was encouraged by it.
But my heart sank as I clicked from photo to photo. Nobody told me that beige pants against the gray New York City skyline will basically look like I’m naked. Nobody flipped my piece of hair that was going the wrong way. I put that disk in a drawer and I never looked at it again. I didn’t even think to say anything to the photographer – that’s just what I look like, right? I was too embarrassed.
I took a winding path towards becoming a portrait photographer myself, and a huge part of that path has been learning how to flatter every body and every face with great lighting and posing. No one should ever feel the way I felt getting that disk.
Every step in my portrait process is designed to ensure that when you work with me you feel taken care of and in-control leading up to the session. You feel pampered and happy during the session, and proud of what you see when it’s all wrapped up.

I’ve known her for a long time and even had headshots done in the past (like 15 years ago). Her work is beautiful.
But I knew it was time for a new round of headshots (and maybe even a boudoir pic or two) and – well – I’m 15 years older! To say I was nervous about the results of a photoshoot (at my advanced age) is an understatement. But she did such a great job of preparing me, she had such an amazing array of “play” clothes and she is such an phenomenal photographer that not only did I feel comfortable, I had fun.
