I’ve been a member of Mile High Photographers for a couple months now, and it’s changed my life. The shoots that people put together for us are brilliant and challenging, and each one pushes me to be a better photographer. When someone is paying me to shoot, I feel that I have to stick with what I know because, after all, they’re paying me based on what they’ve seen in my portfolio. It’s shoots like these where I get to play, try new things and expand what I can offer.
So, yesterday Laura Pearson arranged an amazing Boudoir workshop for us. What is Boudoir? Well, it’s generally a pretty lady, sexy lingerie and some plushy furniture. Husbands and fiancees typically love to get these kinds of photos from the women they love, for a birthday or anniversary, etc. As you’ll see below, they’re tasteful and beautiful and sexy. It’s been something I’ve wanted to offer my clients, but haven’t because I needed a start. Boy what a start!
We had Shanette Medina from the Mop Factory Salon doing the girls’ hair, and Corine Miles from Voilá Spa doing makeup. We had munchies and pink drinks, and four beautiful models.
First, we had Ms. Sweet & Playful
Next, we had Ms. Demure
We had Ms. Pinup Glam:
And last, but not least, Ms. Classic Vixen:
Most of the time, my goal is to make people feel comfortable in front of my camera, so they can be themselves. I’m generally not one to pose people very much, I’d rather just set up the scene and let them be themselves. But, I quickly found out that it doesn’t work that way in boudoir. A girl is too nervous to “be herself” when she’s not wearing a whole lot. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to direct the ladies, but after watching Laura do it a bit, I got the hang of it. And basically, I learned that my being comfortable and having fun made the girls comfortable, and I hope they had some fun too. Thank you to everyone who participated!
