If you didn’t already know, I come from New York. I love being in Colorado now, but I always enjoy collaborating creatively with current and former east coasters.
Last year I connected with a local couple of transplanted New Yorkers now living in Fort Collins. They fell in love in there, then moved out here last fall, and planned an early October wedding back home in upstate New York.
The more we chatted during our initial meeting, the more excited I became about photographing their special day while capturing the uniqueness of upstate NY in October. It’s one of the most beautiful times of the year there — perfect weather, amazing, vibrant, rich colors and beautiful mountain scenery. And what isn’t awesome about hanging out at a vineyard (Ventosa Vineyards, that is)that overlooks a mountain lake (Seneca Lake) for a wedding and some stunning couple’s portraits?
Jen and Steve were also excited to find a local photographer to meet with in person to brainstorm cool photo ideas, who was also familiar with the unique area of their destination wedding.
Jen and Steve are great people, too. As an opposites attract kind of couple, finding something that would get them to engage and look natural on camera together was a unique and fun challenge. I took advantage of the great spring Colorado weather and photographed the engagement shots locally in Warren Park, surrounded by amazing greenery and big, billowy trees – then in Old Town for some urban charm. The photos we made together turned out playful and gorgeous.
