Early last week I got a phone call from Rachael Weaver from Julie Harris Photographers saying her second photographer bailed and would I be able to help her shoot Sara & Ben’s wedding in Carbondale, CO on July 4th. I said “Sure!” without knowing exactly where Carbondale is. I just get excited about weddings… So Carbondale is about a 4-hour drive from Fort Collins, up in the Rocky Mountains somewhere and it happens to be amazingly beautiful. When I learned this (thanks to Google) I decided I should rope in the boyfriend, and take the dog and make a camping trip out of the deal. After overcoming a couple minor obstacles, like campsites being washed out and motels not taking dogs, we had a wonderful weekend.
The wedding was one of the most beautiful I’ve shot. Outdoors in the evening after a morning of raid, the sky was blue, the land was green, and the couple… very, very in love. Probably the in-love-est couple ever.
Having known each other for the past 22 years, being on-again, off-again, and back on again, and finally figuring it out, they know each other so well, they’re so comfortable together and completely smitten with each other. They looked at each other like you think only happens in Richard Gere movies. Truly beautiful. And now, pictures!
Sara and her Dad as he’s walking her to the aisle:
The most picture-perfect mountain wedding. That’s Mt. Sopris overseeing everything:
The ring bearer didn’t have a little pillow…
Gerbera Daisies are my favorite flower ever. They’re just exuberantly happy flowers.
The Big Kiss was followed by an even more heartwarming Big Hug:
The reception was in this wonderfully dressed-up barn:
Look at all that’s going on here! Ben looks concerned, but Sara is all grace and smiles because she knew there would be no cake-face-smashing here. And the kids on the right just want some cake already! I love it!
Thank you Rachael for the opportunity to shoot! And for the impetus to take a Colorado-Mountain-Camping Adventure, which this city girl would have not done otherwise.
