Let’s celebrate! What are we celebrating? Nothing might be the obvious answer, but let’s find something to celebrate right now. As an artist and photographer, finding beauty and reasons for joy is my jam. There have been times in my life when this was how I stayed a float.
So, here’s how we do it…
Step 1: When’s your birthday? Half birthday? Anniversary of getting your house/car / dog / cat/ houseplant / espresso maker? (I’m specifically leaving children out, because their birthday is usually about them, not you.) You get my drift… pick an occasion or accomplishment. I would say the more seemingly insignificant, the better. Because we’re training our celebration muscle.
Step 2: We have August in Colorado – hot days, lovely evenings, flowers blooming, hummingbirds, blue skies, sunshine. We have lawn sprinklers, flip flops, cold drinks. Maybe a thunderstorm. Pick your favorite summer thing.
Take your occasion from step 1, celebrate it with your favorite “right now” thing from step 2. (if your favorite thing is something that can’t be controlled, like hummingbirds and thunderstorms, you’ll have to be ready to celebrate the heck out of it when it happens)
For example, today I’m celebrating my sunglasses. About a year ago I found the perfect sunglasses that fit my tiny head on Amazon… for $20! I’ve bought 3 or 4 pairs now so I have them stashed in various places and I never have to look for sunglasses or, heaven forbid, go out there without them. I love my sunglasses and I’m celebrating that by putting them on and walking outside. With these polarized puppies on, I can stare at the clouds without getting a squinting headache.
Simple joys, simple celebration. What are you celebrating today?
