Kyna is from Ireland. Josh is from Kansas. They met in New Zealand. And got married in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park. I didn’t ask about the drunk part and the arguing part. But I’m certain they have covered the traveling part enough for all three.
I can give you 100 reasons why hiring your friend who has a nice camera to photograph your wedding / family / event / newborn is a really bad idea. Due to reason #92, Jared called me in a panic last Saturday afternoon. His photographer friend, who was scheduled to photograph his proposal to Angie, went into labor that morning a week or so before her due date. So Jared’s plans and reservations were suddenly all up in the air. Not to mention that he was nervous enough about proposing without a new obstacle popping up.
Don’t get me wrong… life happens to all of us. We get sick, we have car accidents, emergencies happen. Knock on wood, life has never tried to take me out from being able to deliver on a photography commitment. But if Life dared such a thing, I have things in place that would enable me to deliver regardless. I have networks of photographers all over the world that I can shout out to and would show up in place. I have equipment, and backup equipment, along with access to rental equipment and borrow-able equipment. Knock on wood again, I’ve never needed it. But it’s all there just in case.
So, Jared called me in a panic on Saturday and 3 hours later I had the exquisite honor and pleasure to witness this. Our human experience at is loveliest.
Carrie is a stunning redhead who came into my studio a couple years ago for headshots. Since that time, she met Brian and they got engaged in September. We’re so lucky to have had the sweet, warm fall we’ve enjoyed here in Fort Collins. We were out at the end of October in 80 degree weather! The big red barn at Highland Meadows provided the backdrop for our engagement photo session. Check out how a change in hair and makeup, plus a pillbox hat, takes a little black dress from modern to retro. Major props to Sarah Renee Hardin at Primp Hair Studio for creating those amazing retro “victory rolls.”
I love destination weddings. Your wedding is so special and so spectacular… and travel is so memorable and extra-ordinary that it just makes sense they should go together. It just makes sense that you should get out of your day-to-day routine and go off somewhere special to get married. And so, Katie and Grant’s wedding in Steamboat Springs was just like that. Katie and Grant live in Fort Collins and have been together for 10 years. When Grant proposed, Katie gave him a “definite maybe.” Ha!
I love that you can see the weather shift in the photos. We started out with a blue sky and got on the gondola down the mountain just as it started raining. I love Katie’s gold dress. And her bright, bold bouquet that they made themselves. And obviously the mountain views, the fall trees, the moody clouds.
This past weekend was the last weekend of the year to get married at the top of Steamboat Mountain… and it was absolutely perfect.
I have had the joy of photographing Ariel and Collin several times over the last 4 years… beginning with Ariel’s dance audition head shots. And since these two have been adorably inseparable since they met 6 years ago, Collin came to Ariel’s photo session… along with their dog Atticus. Because I love my clients, I took some shots of them together then. (Ariel got that part, by the way) And then I needed a cute couple for an impromptu shoot when The Knot called asking for specific mountain photo for an article. And then we photographed Ariel and Collin with their horse, Sparrow. And then Collin needed a headshot for a theater gig. And then they got engaged!! And here we are. Watching them over the years, adapt, overcome and love each other as a trans-queer couple, I learned a new idea of what a relationship could be.
Their wedding, like them, was both elegant and down-to-earth. Sophisticated and comfortable. A bit non-traditional and lots of love all over it. Birds and horses thematically woven throughout. And their dogs were in the wedding party too! An animal-lover myself, I was having a blast.
His and hers custom shoes painted by Hourglass. Creative, stunning florals by Bella Calla. Cupcakes so beautiful they made me forget how gluten destroys me by Colorado Rose Cake Company. My favorite wedding food ever… Delicious vegetarian and vegan and gluten-free catering options by Three Leaf Catering. All the pretty printed stuff – invitations, programs, table cards, little tags on the bells, and those gorgeous wood-burned signs by Michael at Anticipate Invitations. And the backdrop for all this gorgeousness was the elegant Della Terra Mountain Chateau.
More photos?? Here’s a whole lot of them!
