There’s only one place your limitations exist.

There’s a really nutty documentary called Exit Through the Gift Shop that proves it. It’s a movie by Banksy about Thierry Guetta. In a nutshell, Thierry came to America from France as a teen who didn’t even speak English. Before finishing high school, his father went back to France, leaving Thierry and his sister behind. With nothing but ideas, his obsession with himself and willingness to work, Thierry created an empire. So much of the movie’s footage Thierry filmed himself! He imported cheap used clothes from France and repackaged them as designer vintage, selling them on the street and as templates to high-end designers like Ralph Lauren.
“BUY IT FOR $2, SELL IT FOR $200.”
Then he has a workshop of people spray-painting stencils onto scraps of trash, and selling it galleries! And making swag and selling it in his gift shop of course.
We watched this whole movie utterly stunned at this man’s giant confidence. He’s kinda crazy, and he really believes in his “art” —unapologetically–and he made tons of money. If he’s not proof that our limitations are only in our minds, I don’t know what is. We’re really making up our own problems.
I think the only way to watch the movie now is to buy a physical DVD. If you have a DVD player, and promise to watch it because you need a jolt of confidence, motivation or FILDI-strength reply to me with your mailing address. I’ll send you one.
Because it’s just so nuts that I’m inspired by it.
